Safe use of MySeniorMentor

A little preparation helps make a first meeting feel comfortable. Here are a few practical things to consider when meeting someone through MySeniorMentor. Always trust your own judgement — MySeniorMentor cannot guarantee anyone’s safety.

Your first meeting

Consider meeting in a public place or online first, or invite someone you know along. Let a friend or family member know who you are meeting.

Protect your personal information

Share your address, phone number or bank details only when you feel ready. Never send money to someone you have not met.

Discuss expectations clearly

Agree beforehand what someone will and will not do, how long it may take and what you both expect.

Talk about any compensation

Whether help is free, paid, reciprocal or voluntary is up to you both. Discuss it directly and openly before you start.

Insurance

Depending on what you decide to do together, consider whether appropriate insurance is needed. This is something users arrange themselves.

Qualifications

If an activity requires expertise or certification — for example electrical work — check that the person has it, or use a qualified professional.

Inviting someone into your home

Only do so when you feel comfortable. It is always fine to say no or to stop.

Report inappropriate behaviour
